Senator Lucia Borgonzoni, born in Bologna in 1976, was appointed Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Culture in the Meloni Government in October 2022. She has served as a Senator of the Republic in the XVIII and XIX legislatures and was also a member of the Bologna City Council. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. She oversees the ministerial portfolios for film and audiovisual matters, copyright, and cultural and creative industries. She is also responsible for promoting youth entrepreneurship in the cultural sector. She represents the Ministry of Culture in the Interministerial Committees for European Affairs (CIAE), for Aerospace Policies (COMINT), and for Economic Policy and Sustainable Development (CIPESS). During the current governmental term, Undersecretary Borgonzoni has carried out numerous promotional initiatives with the Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual to relaunch the sector, in addition to coordinating, with the Directorate for Creativity, the implementation of NRRP measures for cultural and creative industries. The Undersecretary coordinates working groups on copyright, the regulation of NFTs, the use of artificial intelligence, and the fight against piracy and counterfeiting. Lucia Borgonzoni previously served as Undersecretary for Culture in the Draghi Government (from 25 February 2021 to 21 October 2022) and in the Conte I Government (from 13 June 2018 to 4 September 2019). In prior governmental terms, the Undersecretary undertook international missions as Head of Delegation at the “2nd Meeting of Culture Ministers of the Western Mediterranean” in Portugal, and also traveled to Brazil, Japan, China, and Macedonia. In March 2023, she carried out a mission to Los Angeles to promote Italian cinema and meet major U.S. studios; later, in June 2023, she signed in Tokyo the first film coproduction agreement between Italy and Japan, concluding negotiations that had begun during a previous mission in March 2019.
