Architect
Tereza Šváchová · Czech Republic
Tereza Šváchová was born into a glassmaking family in a major glassmaking centre in the Czech Republic. It is surprising how strongly that label sticks with her. Still, Tereza chose to study architecture — and fell in love with it immediately. She always wanted to connect architecture with glass, which she has succeeded, for example, in the façade of the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou and the Czech Pavilion for EXPO 2025. She is a member of the European Society Light & Glass and chairwoman of the supervisory board of the Eliáška Endowment Fund, which aims to save the former Elias Palme chandelier factory.
❝Glass lives at the edge of tension. So does curiosity — the urge to break borders, to create, to live awake. Through design, we push the boundaries of knowledge every day. And we make mistakes. That’s part of it. They say 10% of glass is a mystery. You wouldn’t believe how much of it I’ve broken.❞ — Tereza Šváchová on "Curiosity"
