M+ · Hong Kong
Suhanya Raffel is the Museum Director of M+ in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District. Since her appointment in 2016, she has overseen all museum activities at M+, including acquisitions, programming, collections care, development, research, institutional collaborations, and museum operations. Raffel has defined the museum’s mission, broadening its international reach and championing its deep connection with the local community. As museum director she established philanthropic programs with a group of 400+ major individuals and a suite of corporate sponsors, the first of such significant giving programs to be established in a cultural institution in Hong Kong.
M+ is a major museum of modern and contemporary visual culture encompassing a collection and program that reflects its cross-disciplinary interests of visual art, architecture, design and moving image. The museum was designed by the Swiss studio Herzog & de Meuron and is a 65,000 square meter space with an additional adjacent 6,000 square meter building, the Conservation & Storage Facility. The museum opened to the public in 2021 to record audiences. She worked closely with the M+ design architects to deliver a construction program while building an eminent team of museum professionals as well as establishing its unique founding collections. Since its opening M+ has established itself among the top 20 most visited museums in the world.
